Merritt woman charged for Utter Threats in relation to the bomb threat at 711
A 35-year-old Merritt woman has been charged of uttering threats at the 7-Eleven in the city.
Melissa Anne Hillis allegedly uttered a bomb threat towards the 7-Eleven near Voght Street and Nicola Avenue on March 23. Merritt RCMP attended and cleared the store, but no explosive device was found.
Hillis was also charged for theft at the same 7-Eleven, allegedly committed on March 21. She’s expected to appear at Merritt Law Courts on June 1, 2021 in relation to the theft charge, and July 20, 2021 in relation to the uttering threats charge.
Merritt man pleads guilty to Impaired Driving
On February 1, 2021, police received multiple reports of a possible impaired driver in the downtown area of Merritt BC. Witnesses followed the suspect to his residence, where he was ultimately arrested by police.
On May 4, 2021, Mr. Cole Bangsund pleaded guilty to one count of impaired operation while 80 BAC. He received a $2,000 fine and a CCC Driving Prohibition for 1 year.
