Merritt signs one-year TNRD fire protection agreement
In late 2019, Merritt City Council passed a resolution to have City Staff sign a new fire protection agreement with the TNRD for a five year term.
“The above agreement was never signed, as staff identified two primary concerns with the terms of the proposed agreement, particularly around liability protection for the City, and payment amount,” said CAO Sean Smith.
“Since that time, City staff and TNRD staff have been working together to draft agreement terms that work well for both parties. Staff concerns have been addressed in the attached agreement, though we are recommending a 1-year term, as TNRD staff have committed to completing a payment review for this service prior to signing a longer-term agreement,” added Smith.
The City will receive $77,986 from the TNRD for protecting the areas outside of City limits.
