SD58 planning for second year of COVID-19 restricted graduation ceremonies
For a second consecutive year, School District 58 Nicola-Similkameen is headed towards a socially distanced graduation ceremony.
Last year, Merritt Secondary School’s Principal and Vice-Principals went around the community to hand deliver diplomas to students at their own homes. This year, they’re looking to switch things possibly taking a page out of Princeton Secondary’s playbook.
“PSS is basically going to mirror last years commencement activities. It will be one day with students moving through the gym,” said Assistant Superintendent Jameel Aziz.
No firm details have been announced but MSS is looking to do something similar however with a bigger graduating class more details need to be worked out.
Superintendent Steve McNiven also mentioned how all overnight trips are not permitted, and that could affect some year-end festivities for all grades throughout the district.
