MLA Tegart looking for robust recovery plan from NDP throne speech
Today, the BC NDP Government will present its throne speech ahead of the Spring legislative session.
Fraser-Nicola MLA Jackie Tegart joined Q101 to address what she’s hoping to hear from the Government later today.
“The throne speech is typically when Government gets to highlight all their achievements, but they have a lot to answer for right now,” began Tegart. “As we look at recovery from the pandemic, we look at calls for transparency in data, and as people try to understand where we’re at with the COVID-19 pandemic.”
“I’ll be looking for a recovery plan that is robust, that recognizes some of the challenges that we’ve heard across the province, from businesses to resources sectors, from an economy that has limped along for the year and is looking for leadership from Government in regards to what the next year to 18 months will look like,” added Tegart.
Tegart also serves as the Opposition Liberals Education Critic and is hoping to hear about investments in schools across the province.
“I will be looking to see what the funding looks like for education across the province. Looking to see if the government is committed to continuing to put extra funding into education to address the COVID issues. We know that parents and staff in schools have expressed concerns about ventilation, air quality, those kinds of things,” said Tegart. “In order for us to have a good September opening, I’ll be looking to see if Government has committed the dollars needed to continue the good work that has been done in the education system over the last year.”
The NDP is also set to present a full budget on April 20, 2021.
