Coldwater wildfire under control; Quilchena Creek blaze continues to burn ‘out of control’

The BC Wildfire Service has had its hands full with a pair of fires sparking in the Merritt area on Sunday.
The first blaze discovered near the Coldwater Reserve is now under control at 50 hectares. The fire along the Coldwater River is believed to be human-caused. The Coldwater Fire Department was the lead agency in the fight with the BC Wildfire Service assisting.
A second fire, East of Merritt, near Quilchena Creek continues to burn out of control this morning. The blaze is estimated at 300 hectares and is believed to be human-caused as well.
A third fire, West of Merritt, near the Shackan Indian Band sparked on Monday. The spot blaze is 0.80 hectares as of Tuesday morning. The location is listed as Pimainus Ridge Road. Like the other fires in the area, it is believed to be human-caused.
