No damage to building after cardboard fire behind Walmart

The Merritt Fire department was called out for a cardboard fire yesterday evening (Sunday March 14).

Fire Chief Dave Tomkinson described the blaze as “stubborn”.

The fire was contained to the cardboard recycling, which was in bales in the loading dock.

“No damage to the building, the bales were isolated 50 feet away from the structure,” added Tomkinson.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
