This week Merritt was talking another fire at Aspen Planers, the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak at the Florentine, another positive COVID case in a local school, and Mayor Linda Brown’s thoughts on a handgun ban in the City.
Overnight fire at Aspen Planers
Fire Chief Dave Tomkinson has confirmed to Q101 that the blaze was significant. Two fire engines, one ladder truck, and 21 fire fighters responded to the scene. Crews have the upper hand on the fire that involved both the mill structure and the chip bins.
Interior Health reports stable conditions at Florentine Outbreak
IH announced an outbreak at the Merritt assisted living facility on February 18 following one positive case, the outbreak has since grown to two confirmed cases.
SD58 confirms COVID case at Collettville Elementary
School District 58 Nicola Similkameen is informing parents that a positive case of COVID-19 has been confirmed among the school community at Collettville Elementary School.
The exposure is stated to have occurred on February 18, 2021.
Mayor Brown not considering immediate action on handgun ban
Mayors in Surrey and Vancouver have been quick to announce they will table bylaws as soon as possible, however, Mayor Linda Brown is preparing to take a measured approach to the possibility.
