Merritt Council to consider Spring Bank development
Residential development will be the theme of this evening’s regular council meeting.
The night will begin with a pair of public hearings regarding proposed development along Lindley Creek and Forksdale.
Following the public hearings, Council will again consider development on Spring Bank.
“The proposed zoning of High-Density Residential (R8) would be consistent with zones in the neighbourhood. Properties to the north are zoned for apartment buildings (R8). There are also multiple nearby parcels zoned for townhomes (R2, R6), as well as apartments in mixed-use developments (C3, C4),” said Planning Manager Don McArthur.
The property owner has reworked his original plan, which was for a senior-only building.
“The property owner has re-envisioned their proposed development from the former seniors only model and, if the rezoning is approved, would construct an inter-generational affordable housing development on the property,” added McArthur.
The proposal will be up for the first and second reading of an Official Community Plan and zoning amendment. If approved the proposal would head to a public hearing.
