COVID-19 case confirmed at Merritt Bench Elementary
School District 58 Nicola-Similkameen is informing parents of a positive case of COVID-19 among the community at Merritt Bench Elementary School.
The exposure is stated to have occurred on January 18, 2021.
This is the first case of the virus confirmed at the elementary school and follows four cases at Merritt Secondary School, all since the resumption of classes after winter break.
“We supported Interior Health Authority during the contact tracing process to determine if any other members of our Merritt Bench Elementary community were in contact with the person who tested positive for COVID-19, and if any additional steps were required,” reads the release from Superintendent Steve McNiven.
Interior Health will contact any members of the community to need to self-isolate as a result of the positive case.
Speaking to Q101 News last week, SD58 Superintendent Steve McNiven reiterated the safety measures being taken at the school to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
“With these exposures certainly comes some extra cleaning on our part. Really want parents to know that deep cleaning is taking place on a regular basis. We have our fog-sprayers in the school on a daily basis. The same twice a day cleaning across our district,” said McNiven.
