Health Fair in Merritt to address drug crisis in the region

Scw’exmx Community Health Services is hosting a a special Health Fair today (April 10) at the Merritt Civic Centre for those wanting more information on the opioid crisis and the drug and alcohol issues that are currently affecting our community.
The event gets underway at 10 am this morning (April 10) and continues until 7 tonight featuring guest speakers, door prizes, booths, resource material and light refreshments. Admission is absolutely free.
Next week marks the 10-year anniversary of British Columbia declaring illicit toxic drugs as a public health emergency in the province. The province says the crisis has claimed for than 18-thousand lives.
In the Nicola Valley area, seven lives were reported lost to drug toxicity in 2025, however none have been reported in 2026.
