UPDATE: Grassfire near Merritt being held

The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS)reporting that the 150 hectare grass fire burning east of Merritt is being held.

The wildfire which is on the Lower Nicola Indian Band was first reported Wednesday in the Hamilton Hill/Quilchena Creek area of the Hamilton Creek 7 reserve.

The fire is believed to be human caused.

Fire crews from surrounding area battled the grassfire which was fueled by gusty winds.

There are currently six active wildfires within the province this afternoon including a 1.8 hectare fire about 3-km north east of Stump Lake off Highway 5A.
