One dead following collision on Highway 8

Merritt RCMP are investigating a fatal collision involving a dirt bike and an SUV on Highway 8, late Tuesday afternoon.

In a news release issued Wednesday morning, RCMP reported that at approximately 5:31 p.m., the detachment were notified of a collision between a dirt bike and an SUV.

It was reported that a dirt bike had struck a SUV and the rider was tossed.

First responders located the rider with critical injuries and performed living saving measures, however, the rider succumbed to their injuries at the scene. The driver of the SUV was treated on scene with minor injuries.

Highway 8 was closed during the investigation to allow the B.C. RCMP Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service to examine the scene.

The investigation is ongoing and Merritt RCMP requests anyone with information or dash camera footage is asked to contact police.
