RCMP again warn businesses about bogus bills in area
Nicola Valley businesses are being warned that more bogus bills are circulating throughout the city of Merritt.
Just before Christmas, several retailers reported counterfeit $50 bills were being distributed in the region; and just this week another Merritt business received two (2) bogus $100 bills.
As was the case before Christmas Staff Sgt. Josh Roda of the Merritt RCMP reminded all businesses in Merritt to remain vigilant when handling cash transactions.
“Counterfeit currency does surface from time to time, and the best protection is awareness,” said Roda.
Roda encouraged all staff at local businesses to take a moment to inspect any large bills that may be presented.
“If something doesn’t feel right, trust your instincts and don’t hesitate to refuse the bill.” Roda added.” We (RCMP) also ask businesses to report any suspected counterfeit notes to police right away, as this helps us track patterns and protect the wider community.”
