Temporary Closure of Coldwater River Trail

Residents may notice a small drilling rig operated by Sea to Sky Drilling in the community over the coming weeks.
The City of Merritt states that the company is conducting a geotechnical borehole drilling program in support of the Dike 129/130 Project.
As part of this work, a contractor for the diking project will be performing drilling activities along the Coldwater Trail.
For safety reasons, the trail will need to be temporarily closed for short periods while the work is underway, and the drill rig will remain in place overnight during active work periods.
The City’s website says a trail closure is required from January 24 to 26, 2026, for the Cone Penetration Testing (CPT) program, with work taking place between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
A second tentative trail closure is requested from February 9 to 12 to complete the remaining drilling work. These dates are subject to change depending on site conditions.
