The Merritt Centennials will be without the services of one of their key pieces, who the team just acquired before the KIJHL trade deadline.
Marcus Hughes, the 6″6′ power forward, has received a one-game suspension following Merritt’s 4-3 win over Sicamous on Jan. 17.
Hughes was acquired on Jan. 9 from the Winkler Flyers of the MJHL and was involved in that second-period melee,
which saw Hughes receive a 5-minute fighting major, a 10-minute game misconduct, and an additional 10-minute game misconduct
for displaying disrespectful and abusive behavior.
In total, the second-period brawl saw the Centennials receive 47 minutes in penalties.
Hughes will miss this Saturday’s game against the Princeton Posse at the NVMA as the Cents begin a three-game homestand,
looking to extend their five-game winning streak.
Saturday night’s game begins at 7 p.m., while Sunday the Cents entertain the Chase Heat at 5 p.m.
The Centennials remain in fourth place with 37 points, trailing the Kelowna Chiefs (45 pts) for third place.
Meanwhile, the Revelstoke Grizzlies (52 pts) and the Princeton Posse (48 pts) continue to battle for top spot in the
Bill Ohlhausen Division of the KIJHL.
Both games can be heard on Super Save Gas Cents hockey beginning Saturday at 6:45 p.m. with Roger White.
