BREAKING:Coquihalla Highway Closed between Hope and Merritt
The Coquihalla Highway between Merritt and Hope was closed on Wednesday (Dec. 10) night due to flooding at Sowaqua.
The adverse weather conditions have led to numerous highway closures across southern B.C.
The province has closed Highway 1 between Chilliwack and Hope to all eastbound traffic because of water flooding the highway. In addition, Highway 1 between Lytton and Yale is closed. And Highway 7 between Hope and Agassiz is closed following a rockslide that blocked the road on Wednesday afternoon.
An atmospheric river weather system is pouring rain across the region. Environment Canada forecasts up to 110 mm of rain for the Hope region through the evening.
On Tuesday, the B.C. River Forecast Centre issued a “High Streamflow Advisory ” for the Coldwater River and four other rivers in the province as a result of the atmospheric river that has blanketed the highways across the southern parts of the province.
Q101 news continues to monitor the situation locally and will report any local flooding issues if necessary.
