The Merritt & Nicola Valley Crime Stoppers Society has announced the launch of its newest year-end fundraising campaign, now until Dec. 31.
The “Protecting Our Community Together is designed to raise funds to support its operational costs and expand the Society’s presence at community events throughout the region.
“We are looking for support from the public that will help us (Crime Stoppers) get out into the community and raise awareness of our organization, ” said Crime Stoppers chair Marlene Jones. “We want to create an inventory of materials that we have so we can expand our presence throughout the Nicola Valley.”
Jones is inviting both corporate sponsors and individual donors to contribute.
“Every dollar you donate allows Crime Stoppers to show up, speak up, and stand with the community,” Jones added. “We believe that crime prevention begins with awareness so with your support, we can reach more people, share vital information, and help protect our community from threats we all face every day.”
Those threats include the uptick in scams and frauds in our community, particularly seniors, who are targets of such cons in our region.
“Funds raised will help us provide the tools and knowledge that they need to stay safe,” she stated. “Those tools include producing educational pamphlets and purchase promotional items for public, local events. ”
Jones reminded potential donors that the Merritt & Nicola Valley Crime Stoppers is a registered charity, so tax receipts can be issued for those who wish.
