Over one hundred residents from across the Nicola Valley converged on Spirit Square on Monday night as the Merritt Country Christmas week of activities began with the annual Christmas tree light-up.
Mayor Mike Goetz joined this year’s Parade Marshalls, Betty Dobberstein and Del (Delphine) Lawrence, to light the gigantic Christmas tree while onlookers and civic officials enjoyed refreshments provided by McDonald’s and sponsored by the Merritt Basque Society.
“I’d like to congratulate the Country Christmas organizing committee again for doing a fantastic job with organizing this year’s slate of events,” said to the gathering. “I hope you take in all of the celebrations.”
A reminder that tonight, NVIT will be hosting the family movie “The Grinch” at the NVIT Lecture Hall. It begins at 6 p.m., and admission is free.
The week of activities continues with a Love to Dance recital on Wednesday, a Community Concert on Thursday, a Craft Fair on Friday and Saturday, and the annual Light Parade on Friday night.
