Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for the Hope to Merritt section of the Coquihalla highway.
The weather agency says there could be between 15 and 20 centimetres of moderate to heavy snow near the Coquihalla Summit starting later Saturday (Oct. 25) evening until about midday Sunday.
“A Pacific low-pressure system will move across the southern interior tonight,” Environment Canada said in the weather warning.
“Light snow from the system will start this evening and will intensify overnight. The snow is expected to taper off to a few flurries Sunday afternoon as the low moves eastward.”
The weather agency says rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult in some locations on the Coquihalla. It also notes that visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow.
A similar snowfall warning is also in effect on Highway 3 from the Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass.
