The BC RCMP Livestock Investigations Section (LIS) is looking into a series of cattle poaching complaints in the province, including a notable instance near Merritt.
Police say sometime over the weekend of September 26 to 28, 2025, on an area off Brookmere Road near Merritt, someone shot and poached a steer calf.
Spokesperson Cpl. Brett Urano says officers who attended found ‘a substantial amount of evidence’ to aid in their investigation.
Urano notes Mounties have been alerted to two other reports of cattle poaching, in the areas of Quesnel and Hixon.
Anyone with more information on these or other cattle poaching incidents is asked to contact Cpl. Cory Lepine of the LIS at (250) 828-3128 or cory.lepine@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
