B.C. Wildfire Service has announced that the category one campfire ban that was issued before the long Labour Day weekend will be lifted starting noon on Monday, Sept. 29.
Category 1 campfires will be permitted throughout the Kamloops Fire Centre, which includes Merritt and the surrounding area.
The government agency reminded that both category two and three open fires remain prohibited throughout the fire centre.
Recent cool and wet weather has helped alleviate the wildfire situation, which currently sees 111 wildfires burning in the province, with eight being classified as out of control.
