Fire officials from around the region are again asking residents to be careful when it comes to fire this spring as local departments are seeing an uptick in recent weeks.
On Tuesday afternoon, Merritt Fire Rescue Department responded to a wildland fire near Harmon Estates, off Monck Park Road. Thanks to the quick action of firefighters, the one-hectare fire was brought under control with no damage to nearby structures. At this time, the cause of the fire remains undetermined.
Officials remind locals not to let the cooler temperatures fool you as conditions are already conducive to fire starts in the area.
