Yet another temporary closure coming to Merritt emergency room Sunday

There will be another emergency room closure at the Nicola Valley Hospital in Merritt Sunday (March 2) night – the sixth closure of 2025.

Interior Health says the facility will be unavailable from 6:00 p.m. Sunday, March 2 until 7:00 a.m. Monday, March 3. The ER was closed for the same 13-hour period Saturday night.

This is the fifth closure over the last week, meaning the Merritt ER has been unavailable for 65 out of 199 hours between last Sunday, Feb. 23 and 7:00 a.m. tomorrow morning, when its scheduled to reopen.

People in the Merritt area are once again being told head to Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops if they need emergency care while the Merritt ER is closed.
