The flood watch issued by the River Forecast Centre last week is over.
Last Thursday February 20, the BC River Forecast Centre issued a Flood Watch for the Coldwater and Nicola Rivers as well as Spius Creek in response to weather conditions that were favourable for the development of ice jams.
Temperatures in the headwaters had been below normal for several weeks and a warmer front with rain is moved across the watershed.
While no significant flooding is currently anticipated, these conditions still have the potential to cause ice jams which may lead to flooding in low lying areas.
The City of Merritt will be watching river conditions closely and will be in regular contact with the River Forecast Centre and other Government of BC organizationsĀ andĀ if flooding is expected to occur you will be notified via Voyent Alert!.
