Winter conditions and vehicle incidents cause overnight closure of the Coquihalla Highway from Hope to Merritt

DriveBC says the Coquihalla Highway from Hope to Merritt reopened at 9:20 a.m. Wednesday morning. The highway was closed overnight following multiple vehicle accidents due to the slippery conditions and freezing rain.

DriveBC first reported of a vehicle incident in the Kingsvale area of the stretch of Highway 5 at around 8:20 p.m. Tuesday.

Two posts from the Skilled Truckers Canada social media group shows separate incidents of semi-trucks off the roadway on Highway 5.

However, drivers are being asked to slow down on the stretch of Highway 5 as slushy and slippery sections, compact snow and pooling water have been reported.
