Centennials look to extend their winning streak vs Coyotes in home and home series
The Merritt Centennials will be looking to make it five consecutive wins tonight as the Cents and the Osoyoos Coyotes meet for the first time this season in a home and home weekend series for the two divisional foes in KIJHL action.
The Cents (12-6-5-1) lead Osoyoos (10-5-5) by three points in the Bill Ohlhausen Division and will look to distance themselves from the Coyotes and inch closer to Revelstoke for second in the division.
“We’re looking for a tough weekend,” said Cents head coach Wes McLeod. “The Coyotes are well coached and we just have to stick to our (Cents) game and stay disciplined.”
The Centennials have strung together four consecutive wins for the first time since the 2018-2019 season when the franchise was part of the BCHL, including a 3-2 shootout win over Kelowna on Tuesday night.
“There’s a lot of confidence in the dressing room right now, however the boys know we have to focus on the game tonight and not look ahead in the schedule, ” McLeod added.
The Centennials have every right to be confident. With four lines that continue to improve, a defensive corps that has settled down and superb goaltending from the KIJHL’s top goalie of the week Andrew Krakora who has four consecutive win including back to back shutouts, the Cents know they can challenge in the Ohlhausen Division.
“Our goal has been clear since the beginning of the season, be competitive and make the playoffs and if we continue to play this caliber of hockey, I think we’ve got a good chance to do that in year once as an expansion franchise.” McLeod noted.
Following Friday’s game, the Cents will travel to Osoyoos for a 7 p.m. match up at the Sun Bowl arena.
Both games will be broadcast on FloHockey and on Super Save Gas Cents Hockey on Q101 beginning with the pre-game show at 6:45 p.m.
