BREAKING NEWS: Nicola Valley Hospital Emergency Room closed until Monday morning

Merritt area residents with medical emergencies will have to travel to Kamloops today as Interior Health report the Nicola Valley Hospital emergency department will experience a 25-hour closure.

The emergency department will be closed today, Sunday Sept 22 beginning at 7 a.m. and remain closed until 8 a.m. Monday September 23nd. The reason for this closure is limited physician availability.

This marks the 13th emergency room closure for the Nicola Valley Hospital this calendar year, however the first since the Labour Day weekend.  In 2023, the Nicola Valley Hospital sustained 19 emergency room closures.

Patients can access care at the Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops if needed.
