Effective at noon (today) on Wednesday, Sept. 18, all Category 2 open fires will be permitted throughout the Kamloops Fire Centre which includes Merritt and surrounding areas.
The B.C. Wildfire Service issued a press-release this morning stating that seasonal fall temperatures and significant precipitation over the last few weeks had a positive impact on the Kamloops Fire Centreโs fire danger rating.
The agency reports that widespread cooling temperatures, good overnight relative humidity recoveries, and forecasted weather patterns, has allowed the department to rescind the current Category 2 open fires prohibition.
In addition to category 2 open fires, items such as fireworks, sky lanterns and burn barrels will no longer be restricted in the Kamloops Fire Centre as well.
