Environment Canada has once again issued a “severe thunderstorm watch” for Merritt and surrounding area for the remainder of the day. (Sunday Aug. 18)
The agency says that conditions are favourable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms that may be capable of producing damaging wind gusts and torrential rain.
Area residents should expect very strong wind gusts that could damage buildings, down trees and blow large vehicles off the road. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads.
Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!
