Highway 1 re-open under travel advisory

Highway 1 has reopened this afternoon (July 23, 2024) between Spences Bridge and Ashcroft according to DriveBC.

Motorists should be cautioned that a Travel Advisory remains in place due to the Shetland Creek wildfire, and DriveBC reports that wildfire activity may cause the highway to close on short notice.

The Shetland Creek Wildfire remains out of control and is a wildfire of note. In an recent update with BC Wildfire Service, the fire is 19, 941.6 hectares in size.

Currently (Tuesday) there are 415 wildfires burning i the province with 255 now out of control. There are also four wildfires of note in the province, including Shetland Creek.
