UPDATE: Highway between Spences Bridge and Cache Creek to remain closed

The Trans Canada Highway from Spences Bridge to Cache Creek will remain closed as the Shetland Creek wildfire continues its devastation.
An update was provided on Monday at noon.
On Sunday, DriveBC announced that the stretch of Highway 1 was closed in both directions due to the fast moving wildfire now measured at 19,941.6 hectares. A travel advisory had been in place since Friday.
A detour is in effect via the Coquihalla Highway from Merritt to Hope. Commercial drivers are reminded thereโs no access for their vehicles on Highway 8 from Merritt to Spences Bridge.
Another update is not due until 12:00 p.m. Tuesday.
Mid-morning Monday, the TNRD placed nine more properties on evacuation order, taking them out of the evacuation alert area. That brings the total number of properties on order to 97.
The evacuation order now covers all properties between Spences Bridge and Ashcroft on the Trans Canada Highway, as well as all addressed properties within the community of Venables Valley.
