Temperature record broken for Merritt on Sunday

According to historical data many temperature records were broken on Sunday in the area including in Merritt.
Environment Canada says Merritt’s preliminary maximum temperature of 35.7 degrees celsius beat the previous July 7, 2015 record of 35.6 on Sunday.
Meanwhile Kamloops Airport recorded a new temperature high of 38.3 degrees Celsius on Sunday beat the previous July 7 record of 35.6 set back in 1906.
The weather agency says records in the Kamloops area have been kept since 1890.
Lytton wasn’t far behind by reaching a daytime high of 39.9 degrees, up from 38.9 set in 1953.
The heat warning remains in effect for the Nicola Valley for the next few days with highs on Tuesday expected to reach 39 C.
