KIJHL announces 2024-25 schedule, Centennials open season in Quesnel

The Kootenay International Junior ‘A’ Hockey League (KIJHL) have released their 2024-25 regular season schedule and the league’s newest franchise, the Merritt Centennials are among those in action on opening night Friday Sept. 20.

Since 1973-74, the Merritt Centennials hockey team had been a part of the B.C.H.L., however on March 31, the team announced that it would cease operations within the BCHL following the 2024 playoffs and then announced that the franchise was awarded an expansion team in the KIJHL for the upcoming 2024-25 season.

The new Merritt Centennials will open the season on the road,  when they travel to Quesnel to face the River Rush at the West Fraser Centre. The following night, Saturday Sept. 21, the Cents will square off against the Williams Lake Mustangs.

The home-opener for the Centennials will be on Friday Sept 27, when the Kamloops Storm visit the Nicola Valley Memorial Arena for a 7 p.m. contest.

Q101 will once again be the broadcast partner with the Merritt Centennials this season as Jared Thomas and Roger White will share play-by-play duties for the upcoming season.
