Merritt going to the dogs as Kennel Club hosts annual show

The city of Merritt is going to the dogs this weekend as the Nicola Valley Kennel Club gets set to host their annual dog show beginning Friday through Monday Canada Day.
Once again this year, the event is being held on the Nicola Valley Rodeo Ground on Lindley Creek Rd. and will feature dogs of all ages and breeds competing for top honors in accordance to the Canadian Kennel Club rules.

Annette Milburn, Vice-President of the Nicola Valley Kennel Club said this years entries are from various locations.
“This is an event that everyone circles on their calendar every year,” said Milburn.” Not only do we have local participants, but we have entries coming from the Island, Alberta, and the US as well.”
The events get underway on Friday with four all-breed championship shows including veterans and the new baby puppy class.
Milburn added that admission is free and the concession stand will be open for everyone to enjoy. The doors to the show open every morning at 8:30 a.m. with the shows beginning at 9:00 a.m.
