MSS athletes impress at provincials
Two Merritt Secondary School track and field athletes made their school proud at this past weekends B.C. Track and Field Provincials in Nanaimo.
Grade 12 senior Michaela Nicholls competed in three events while Grade 11 student Keanu Manuel competed in the javelin competition.
Nicholls, qualified for the provincials after an outstanding performance at the Okanagan Zone Championships where she placed second in the 100m and won both the 200m and 400m competitions. Michaela recorded a personal best time in all three events this weekend placing 17th in the 100m, 15th in the 200m and 11 in the 400m.
Keanu Manual also impressed at the provincial finishing as one of the top 30 javelin throwers in the province.
Coach Randy Sheldon praised the efforts of the athletes saying how proud he was of Michaela and Keanu. While he was sad that this was Michaela’s final competition for MSS he wished he all the success in the world, and also looks for big things next year from Keanu who will be entering his Senior year.
