Convicted Killer’s Name Change Sets Off Law Change

Convicted killer Allan Schoenborn wants to be known as Ken John Johnson, but the killer’s attempt to have his name banned from publication set off a proposed law change by the B-C government to stop people like him from changing their names.
Schoenborn was convicted of killing his three children in Merritt in April 2008, but he was found not criminally responsible and has been living in a psychiatric hospital since 2010.
He changed his name in 2021, then recently asked the B-C Review Board to ban his name from being published.
Instead, his name change certificate was given to the family of the victims yesterday and they posted it on social media.
Health Minister Adrian Dix says the amendment to the law would prevent convicted criminals from evading accountability for their actions.
