“Revenge is a dish best served cold” Matthew Gillard makes his former team pay over the Weekend
MERRITT — They call him Matthew Gillard, and he was a bad bad man over the weekend.
The 18 year old blue liner was cut from the Salmon Arm Silverbacks, a team that boasts the third best record in the BCHL defensively.
They are also the fourth best team in the league, but they certainly didn’t look like that against the Merritt Centennials the last two games.
Merritt stole a thrilling 3-2 eleven round shootout win in Salmon Arm Friday, February 23rd (2024) then blanked the same team the next night in Merritt 4-0.
It was a stunning victory with the Silverbacks boasting a 16-3-1 record at home before the game, which is third best in the league.
Salmon Arm didn’t score until there were nine minutes left in the third period, and didn’t score at all the next night.
As for Matthew Gillard, his heroics came Saturday (February 24th, 2024) night at the NVMA.
He absolutely lit up defenseman Nathaniel Davis, crushing him with a huge clean hit behind the rowdy cheers of a pretty full barn in Merritt.
His shining moment came when he opened the scoring in that game, cutting in and sniping a beauty behind Eli Pulver for his first goal in the BCHL.
The Cents are back in action next Friday (March 1st, 2024) to close out a wild three game series against Salmon Arm.
