MERRITT — It has been a tumultuous couple of weeks for Merrittonians.
Many locals struggled to get their cars started during the cold snap that saw temperatures dip into almost minus 40 Celsius with wind chill.
As soon as the cold snap ended the City was pounded with thick layers of Snowfall.
The drop of heavy snow did bring out the best in some Merrittonians with neighbors helping each other clear snow, some for free others offering a small charge.
The terrible road conditions made the Coquihalla highway and other routes nearly undrivable. Multiple vehicle incidents were reported over the past few weeks with a handful of fatalities as well.
Snowplows had been caught up with the heavy snow, more than one incident occurred where snowplows struck pedestrians or even vehicles.
It has been a couple of messy weeks to say the least.
Now the weather forecast suggests locals have made it to the finish line, with warmer temperatures expected to blanket the Nicola Valley.
Here’s a look at this weekend’s forecast:
While a lack of sunshine and possibility of flurries and rain looms, the sudden spike in temperature is a relief to Merrittonians battling the adverse weather of late.
