Periods of heavy snow expected in Kamloops and area over three days: Environment Canada

Starting Monday (Jan. 15) night and lasting through to Wednesday, Environment Canada says an arctic front will begin to sweep across the province from north to south and bring periods of snow with it.

At the same time, the weather agency says moisture from a Pacific low-pressure system will approach the coast from the west and interact with the cold front from the north. It’s expected to bring periods of heavy snow which may trigger snowfall warnings in some regions.

Environment Canada issued special weather statements for multiple regions, including:

• 100 Mile
• Cariboo South – including Williams Lake
• Nicola
• North Thompson
• Shuswap
• South Thompson

Special weather statements were also issued for the Coquihalla Highway from Hope to Merritt, the Okanagan Connector from Kelowna to Merritt and the Cariboo Highway from Clinton to 100 Mile House.

Elsewhere, Environment Canada called off extreme cold warnings for the North Thompson, Shuswap and South Thompson regions over the weekend. However, extreme cold warnings remain in effect for the Coquihalla Highway from Hope to Kamloops and the Okanagan Connector.
