Breakfast with Santa wraps up Merritt Country Christmas Week
MERRITT — Well that’s a wrap for Merritt Country Christmas Week. The Christmas Tree is up at Spirit Square, the Light-Up Parade has come and gone, the Craft Fair was a success and finally Santa was around to help conclude the week’s festivities.
The Merritt Civic Centre hosted Breakfast with Santa, giving Merrittonians a chance to take pictures with jolly old St. Nicholas and fill up on pancakes, eggs and sausages. Councillor Adam Etchart was there, volunteering for the city as he served up hot breakfast and coffee for locals that decided to check out the christmas festivities.
Once the event concluded Santa and crew headed over to the The Aquatic Centre to take more pictures with anyone looking for photos.
Recreational Coordinator for the City of Merritt Vanessa Webb talked about how much effort the team had put in to make sure everyone went to plan. “We had a lot of help with the Bass Club, they’ve been great. All the donations we’ve gotten will go to the Bass Society, It was a lot of effort but definately worth it. Seeing everyone get together, smiling, all the kids being happy made it all that much better.”
The turnout was excellent with a barely an empty table in sight. It was a perfect time to give back to the community with people struggling to keep up financially with the demands of the Holiday Season and a shaky economy.
Vanessa Webb added that “We tried to make this event inclusive and affordable for everyone. We know times are tough right now so we wanted to reach out and make sure at the least everyone was fed, on us.”
Webb and the Recreation Coordinators are working on a New Years event next for Sunday, December 31st. There will be a dance for the kids and a DJ for the event.
