Empty Keg - Zach Amin
MERRITT โ The town is buzzing in anticipation for the start of the Merritt Centennials season.
Mayor Mike Goetz, city councilors, die hard fans and Merrittonians gathered at the Empty Keg over the weekend for the Centennials Meet and Greet.
New Head Coach Brian Passmore was introduced, he addressed the completely new roster and all the efforts he has put in to attract new players to the team. Assistant Coach Logan Connor was also there, he brings a Championship pedigree after winning as a player in the SJHL. Itโs Connorโs first foray in coaching Junior hockey, he was a Strength and Conditioning Coach last season.
Both coaches come from the Cowichan Valley Capitals organization, this will be Passmoreโs third season coaching Junior hockey.
It was mentioned that star goaltender Johnny Hicks was still on the Centennials roster, despite signing with the Brooks Bandits (AJHL.) The Bandits may not have room on the roster for Hicks, so the possibility of him returning remains open.
There are many players Brian Passmore is waiting to hear back from, the Centennials roster is going through a complete overhaul with only around six returning players.
The Cents begin their preseason September 8th, theyโll host the West Kelowna Warriors.
