City of Merritt activates Level 1 Emergency Operations Centre as flood precaution

MERRITT — The City of Merritt has activated a Level 1 EOC (Emergency Operations Centre) as water levels in the Nicola and Coldwater Rivers have risen slightly. A flood watch is in effect for the region, however Mayor Mike Goetz noted the city is not currently expecting overland flooding.

The move to activate the EOC is purely precautionary, with Goetz saying the city is likely being overly cautious in the aftermath of devastating November floods of 2021.

In addition to crews manning the low level EOC, sandbags will be made available to residents in the Civic Centre parking lot.
