MERRITT – Semester two began on Monday (January 9) for Nicola Valley Institute of Technology (NVIT) students, and the institute is looking forward to another successful period.
When thinking back at the first semester, President of NVIT, Ken Tourand said even though they are still going through ups and downs, it was successful.
“First semester was good,” said Tourand. “Merritt is still recovering from the horrific floods and there is not a whole lot of housing, so that has been an issue for our students. The rental market is not great, so we’ve got a number of students struggling to find housing but we’ve got a great group of faculty and staff here at NVIT and really committed to student support and helping our students. The first semester overall went well.”
Looking towards this new semester, that is now underway, Tourand said there is lots of opportunity for students to prosper this year.
“We got everything, we’ve got some trades programs going on. Our electrical, which is a foundation electrical, kind of a first year electrical program starts in February, so there is lots of time before that. We’ve got Business classes going on, we’ve got Associate of Arts classes, University Transfer classes, all kinds of those classes where students can come up in join even in January and get started on their post secondary.”
Students at NVIT still have the opportunity to join a new class or add a class to their schedule. They have until January 22 to do so.
