Wind warning issued for Coquihalla Highway and Okanagan Connector

MERRITT — Environment Canada has a wind warning in effect for the Coquihalla Highway from Kamloops to Merritt and the Okanagan Connector from Merritt to Kelowna.

While a windstorm is forecast to cross B.C.’s Interior Thursday (Oct. 27), Environment Canada says the southwest winds of 60 km/h with gusts up to 90 km/h can create strong crosswinds and potential wind-related damage on the Coquihalla and the Connector.

“Loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage,” Environment Canada states. “High winds may result in power outages and fallen tree branches. Motorists, especially in high profile vehicles, may expect hazardous driving conditions on highways subject to strong cross winds.”

Environment Canada says the strong winds are expected to ease in the late afternoon or early evening Thursday.
