Historic Murray Church set to reopen
MERRITT – After over three years, one of Merritt’s historic buildings will be reopening.
Murray United Church is rebuilt and almost ready to be reopened after being burnt down in January of 2019.
“Murray United Church official opening and dedication will be held on Saturday, October 1 between 1:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. with a dedication ceremony at 2:00 p.m.,” said Richie Gage, Financial Officer at Murray Church open house the congregation is inviting all the donors the contractors the service suppliers and all interested persons in the valley that would like to attend.”
Gage also wanted to say a big thank you to everyone that made this day possible.
“The donor support was just amazing, cash and any kind of contributions were received from individuals, from the contractors, and from the service providers in the valley. Also from other BC communities, even other provinces and countries. So the congregation of Trinity Untied Church and Murray Church is extremely thankful for the overwhelming support. I would like to mention also that without the support of leadership of David Laird, our project construction manager, we wouldn’t be able to rebuild this church.”
On Feb.21, 2019, RCMP arrested 37-year-old August David Caprian, who later plead guilty to three charges of arson, along with a charge of break and enter with intent to commit an offence, in relation to the church burning down.
Murray United Church’s official opening and dedication will be held on Saturday, Oct. 1 between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., with a dedication ceremony at 2 p.m.
