Daniel Meeker has been missing for over a month

MERRITT – After crashing into Nicola Lake on June 19, Daniel Meeker has now been missing for over a month now.

“We are at a stand still right now and there is no closure,” Jen Alexander, mother of three of Dan’s kids. “Dan has four kids and they want some sort of closure. We don’t just leave people out there.”

Alexander said they haven’t given up hope yet and still have family and friends searching for Daniel.

“Since the first week we had people out there, I had friends and family out there looking ground searching by foot and we were basically out there for a week straight. We are untrained people who are just trying to do our best to relocate him in any way but there’s very minimal we can do in certain areas that we can’t get to.”

She added that police told them to stay safe while looking due to the water levels and the fact they didn’t have enough safety gear with them like radios, ropes, and high visual gear.

According to RCMP, the search for Meeker has been halted ever since the crash, due to the dangerously high water levels, but they are still trying their best to find answers.

“We are still actively investigating Mr. Meeker as a missing person and will be until he is found,” said Sgt. Josh Roda. “Unfortunately until river levels drop significantly, putting searchers lives at risk is not something we can do. We will be making efforts to fly the river again soon and will hopefully have searches out in the next couple of weeks when levels drop.”

Even though people can’t get close enough yet to do a thorough search, Alexander said she has been asking everyone to look even for a second.

“I always tell people to keep a lookout at the dam cause I’m not sure how far the river goes and if there are visible areas where the water is for people to keep an eye out. The dam is right there, everybody passes it, just take a quick look over there and we just hope for the best that something comes out.”

Daniel Meeker is 39-years-old and is described as being 5’4″ tall, weights about 150 lb’s, has brown hair and brown eyes, and is from aboriginal descent.
