Fehr Not Re-offering For Merritt Council
While the civic elections for the City of Merritt may be more than six months away, thereĀ seems to be a lot of interest as to who is and is not running for the six council seats and for the mayor position.
Incumbent Mayor Linda Brown has told Q101 news that she will announce whether she will seek a second term in late June.
Councilor Adam Etchart is the only sitting member who has confirmed that he will seek a second term while Tony Luck, Kurt Kristopherson, and Melvina White have yet to make a decision on whether they will let their name stand for another term.
However Councilor Travis Fehr, said in an interview, that he has decided not to re-offer for a second term. Fehr, elected in 2018 is also the owner/operator of Breathe Bikes and said the success of his business has made it increasingly difficult to do both.
“The business (Breathe Bikes) is really growing and my attention is needed there,” Fehr said. “This was not an easy decision, but right now I do not believe I can give both my full attention at this time.”
Fehr added that he enjoyed his term on council and hopes others come forward for the Municipal Election slated for October 15th.
“The city (Merritt) needs good strong leadership so I hope we have a good contingent of candidates put their name forward this election,” he added. “It can be a very rewarding experience as it has been for me.”
Fehr thanked the staff at city hall for their hard work over the past four years as quote-“they are and have proven themselves to be exceptionally talented, smart, and compassionate people.”
