Environment Canada is confirming that the Merritt area recorded a new record high on Sunday.
The weather agency states that temperatures in Merritt hit 42.2 degrees Celsius on Sunday afternoon. That crushes the previous June 27th record of 38.0 set back in 2015.
The high of 42.2 is also believed to be the highest temperature ever recorded in Merritt, surpassing the record of 39.5 set on July 23, 1994.
Itโs possible the new record could fall again this week with temperatures forecast to hit 43 on Monday and Tuesday.
Over 50 daily records were set on Sunday across British Columbia.
