Cooling Centre remains open at Civic Centre

The City of Merritt’s cooling centre will remain open through the beginning of this week.

“Residents should be able to expect it to be available until at least the middle of the week based on the forecast,” stated Director of Corporate Services Greg Lowis.

The cooling centre is located at the Merritt Civic Centre (1950 Mamette Avenue) and is open to the public between 11am and 6pm.

“This is a response to an extreme weather scenario, and we want to remind all residents that Covid safety protocols will still be in effect. People will be able to sit in small household groups, but we are only providing a cool space to sit, with water and bathrooms. If you are planning on attending, please bring a book, a phone, a deck of cards etc to pass the time,” added Lowis.

Temperatures in Merritt are forecast to hit the mid-40s on Monday and Tuesday before reducing slightly to 38 on Friday.
