Fehr moves motion to recognize traditional territories

Merritt Councillor Travis Fehr made a notice of motion during the last meeting to ensure that all future meetings include a recognition of the traditional territories of the local first nations.

“I’d like to make a motion that council direct staff to research and propose an appropriate land acknowledgement to be used at council meetings,” stated Fehr.

Merritt council meetings do not currently include any acknowledgement of the local territory.

School District 58 Nicola Similkameen does currently begin their meetings with one.
